A C-7 Low Voltage Systems license authorizes installing and servicing systems operating at 91 volts or less — fire alarms, burglar alarms, CCTV, access control, and data/telephone cabling — a voltage threshold that separates C-7 from the C-10 Electrical classification. Read the complete C-7 exam guide for requirements and exam structure.
C-7 also covers intercom, sound/public-address, and nurse-call systems, not just security and data cabling. The dividing line with C-10 Electrical is purely about voltage: mounting a CCTV camera and running its Cat6 cable is C-7 work, but installing the 120-volt outlet that powers the recorder is C-10 work — most real installations require coordination between both trades.
