How Contractor Pathway works
From “I need to pass this exam” to “I’m a licensed contractor” — here’s how every step happens.
Pick your classification
Whether it’s Electrical, General Building, or any classification your state licenses — find the classification that matches the work you do. Not sure? Try the free diagnostic quiz and we’ll suggest the right path.
Pick your access window
30-day for last-minute prep, 60-day if you have 4–8 weeks (most popular), or 90-day if your exam is 2+ months away. All three include the same content; you just pick how much time you need to study. See pricing →
Read the study guide
Each classification ships with a 9,000–12,000 word, classification-specific study guide. It mirrors the official exam blueprint — Codes & Standards, Safety, Trade Knowledge, Business & Law — at the actual exam weighting. Available on-site (mobile-friendly) and as a downloadable PDF (watermarked with your name).
Take 4 timed practice exams
Each exam mirrors the real state exam in length, difficulty, and topic distribution. After each question you instantly see whether you got it right or wrong, plus the explanation citing the exact your state code section. You also get topic-level scoring so you know exactly which areas need more review.
Take the Law & Business prep — 75% off with a classification
your state requires every contractor to pass BOTH the trade exam (your classification) AND the universal Law & Business exam. Business & Law prep is 75% off with a classification.
Sit for your state exam
Schedule with PSI (the testing vendor (e.g., PSI/Prometric)) at a center near you. Your prep will have you ready. Most students who follow the recommended study path pass on the first attempt.
After you pass — optional next steps
Most contractors stack 2–3 related classifications (e.g. B + C-36, or C-10 + C-7). Each adds scope you can self-perform without subcontracting — fastest way to grow license fees into a six-figure business.
