The Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors (LSLBC). As of August 2025, all LSLBC trade and business/law examinations are administered by PSI, with scheduling and payment handled directly through PSI.
What exams does Louisiana require?
A Business and Law exam (50 questions, about 2.5 hours, open book) covering licensing statutes, lien law, tax withholding, contract clauses, and OSHA – plus a trade exam for your classification. The passing score is around 70%.
Can the NASCLA exam be used in Louisiana?
Yes – for commercial building, the NASCLA Accredited Examination for Commercial General Building Contractors may substitute for the state trade exam. You must still pass Louisiana’s Business and Law exam separately, and a NASCLA pass can simplify licensing in other states that accept it.
