Nebraska Electrician License Exams (2026): One License at the Top, Not Two

Two things about Nebraska are worth knowing before you buy any preparation, and one of them concerns what we can honestly tell you.

Figures below are compiled from state board and exam-provider sources. Where a board does not publish a count we say so rather than estimate. Confirm against the current candidate bulletin for your exam before you register.

There is no separate Master Electrician license

Nebraska’s highest trade credential is the Electrical Contractor license. There is no distinct Master Electrician license above the journeyman level in the way most states structure it.

If you are searching for “Nebraska master electrician” you are looking for the Electrical Contractor license. Our master-level preparation is built against that credential.

The State Electrical Division does not publish question counts

We want to be straightforward here. The Nebraska State Electrical Division does not publish question counts for its examinations, and we could not locate the PSI candidate bulletin, which is issued to candidates at scheduling rather than published openly.

What is established: testing moved from ICC to PSI on 1 October 2023, and the Division’s own guidance states that the time allowed and the number of questions changed at that point. Exams are computer-based at PSI sites, with no at-home option.

Secondary sources disagree. Some report 50 questions at three hours; others report 80 questions at 240 minutes post-transition. We have not been able to resolve that against an official source, so we have not published a figure we cannot stand behind.

If exact exam length matters to your preparation, request the candidate bulletin from the Division at (402) 471-1058 or SED.Officestaff@nebraska.gov before you register.

Before you register

  1. Confirm the question count and time limit on the current bulletin.
  2. Confirm the code edition; it is pinned and a newer edition is not a substitute.
  3. Confirm whether a separate business and law paper is required.
