What is actually on the C-16 exam

CSLB divides the Fire Protection (C-16) examination into five sections. These weightings are the Board’s own, taken from the study guide it publishes for this classification — they are not our estimate:

SectionShare of exam
Planning and Estimating25%
Installation of Underground Fire Main Systems9%
Installation of Fire Protection Systems36%
Maintenance and Repair of Fire Protection Systems9%
Safety21%

The C-16 examination is closed book — no reference materials may be used during the test. Questions are multiple choice with four options, and there is no penalty for guessing, so leave nothing blank.

This is only half of what you sit. Every applicant also passes the separate Law and Business examination, which is not part of the C-16 paper and is weighted on its own outline. Budget preparation time for both.
