Who licenses contractors in Utah?
The Utah Division of Professional Licensing (DOPL). Utah issues three general building classes: B100 General Building (no project-value cap), B200 General Small Commercial (projects up to $250,000 each), and R100 Residential and Small Commercial (up to $50,000 each).
What exams and education does Utah require?
A mandatory 25-hour DOPL pre-license course (required regardless of experience), plus two Prov exams: the Business and Law exam (50 questions, 120 minutes) and the trade exam (80 questions, 240 minutes). Each requires a 70% score to pass.
What does the Utah exam cost and can I retake it?
Each Prov exam part is $77, paid on the day of testing; a failed part can be retaken individually after a 30-day waiting period for a new $77 fee. A $50,000 contractor surety bond plus liability and workers compensation coverage are also required to license.
How much experience does Utah require?
